Interior doors selection guide
Tips for choosing interior doors may seem like just a matter of choosing a style, but in fact it is not so. After all, the doors not only divide the rooms and should fit into the overall interior of the house, they also provide sound insulation and privacy.
Before looking at the door options, determine two key points for further selection:
- wooden doors or doors for painting;
- price range.
The answer to the first question will determine the appropriate material for the door, and a wide selection of brands of paint and varnish products will not run out of budget.
Wooden doors for painting
Molded doors come in different styles and are therefore very popular. They are made from wood by-products and pressed into molds to give the door a special style.
There are two types of doors: hollow and with a solid core. A hollow door is much lighter and cheaper. It gives less sound insulation, and therefore is more often used for cabinets. Solid doors are stronger than hollow ones, they provide greater privacy due to their soundproof properties.
MDF doors are made of a material called a medium-density fiberboard. They are considered to be of higher quality than molded doors, and can be made both in the form of a solid door made of MDF, and in combination with wood. This allows the profile of the door to be more clear than that of molded doors, and when painted they look more like wooden ones.
Wooden doors color selection of interior doors
If painted interior doors are not suitable, the choice is simple – the doors must be wooden. However, what the industry calls a wooden door is not always it. In fact, these doors are most often made of artificial wood with solid wood veneers. This significantly reduces their cost. Prices here vary depending on the materials, the method of manufacture and the manufacturer.
Exterior film pressed with veneers-this option offers an exotic color (cherry, mahogany, Alpine apple tree) on a cheaper wooden core, which makes the doors a cost-effective alternative. The wood core is most often poplar or pine.
Solid wood doors are solid doors made of solid solid wood. Veneer is not used in the manufacture of these doors. Such doors are very massive, heavy and their price is much higher than the others. Because of their massiveness, they are rarely used in the interior of a residential building, they are preferred only as entrance doors.
Following simple tips and paying attention to a number of subtleties, it will be easier to make a choice, and the selected doors will please with reliability and durability.
