Unsuccessful dimensions of the room: what to do?

When buying an apartment of a secondary fund, almost everyone faces the problem of an unsuccessful layout. And it doesn't matter where you picked up an apartment: in a pre – revolutionary house, a communal apartment, in a Soviet-built house-there will be shortcomings everywhere that need to be corrected with the help of repairs.

1. The Tunnel Room

An elongated room is a problem for many apartments. In this case, the arrangement of furniture is difficult, it is impossible to allocate a cozy place for rest in the room, it is also difficult to equip a sleeping place in such a room. An elongated room is like a tunnel, psychologically it also affects negatively. The solution of the problem is possible by several methods and largely depends on the number of windows in the room.

The most favorable option is the presence of two windows along a long wall. In this case, the optimal solution is to make two small rooms out of one long room. It is not necessary to make a stationary partition, you can put a temporary one or even use it as a wardrobe divider. Although this method of redevelopment can be used even in the absence of a second window. But then you should pay special attention to artificial lighting. In a room without windows, you can make a study or a semblance of a home office – put a desk, a computer, office equipment.

Another way is to create a podium at one end of the "tunnel". The raised area visually shortens the length of the room. The raised part looks like a separate room. A working area is usually placed on such a "stage": if it is a kitchen, a working surface for cooking in the nursery – a computer table, in the bedroom – a bed, in the bathroom – a bath.

The podium can be designed as a chill-out zone, that is, in the form of a large sofa. On a small podium, you can place an aquarium, a collection of souvenirs, arrange a winter garden. Zoning with contrasting dark-colored tiles will create an additional visual effect.

In the remaining area after the correction, furniture can be placed in the usual way.

2. Inconvenient placement of windows and doors

Even a normal-sized room can be uncomfortable. The room may seem cramped because of the door, which is inconveniently located or takes up all the space when opened. If this is the problem, then install a sliding structure. Thus, you will not have to leave a part of the wall for opening the door, you can put furniture here.

If the room is angular and has two windows, then you can put a screen or a removable partition in the corner. You will get a cozy corner where you can put upholstered furniture. The corner can be rounded and put a sofa of the same shape in it. A curtain that combines two windows and the angle between them will look stylish. Another option is to install a protruding bar counter in the corner. This is true for the kitchen in the studio apartment, and profile doors in the room will complement the design in a single style.

Due to the fact that modern furniture can be transformed, any unsuccessful layout can be redone for yourself. The table and bed can be made folding, which will save space. In addition, the furniture can change along with your needs. For example, a changing table eventually turns into a convenient chest of drawers. A good solution in a small apartment is to buy an attic bed.

3. Correction of the layout with the help of furniture

Custom-made furniture is the best way to correct an unsuccessful layout. Wardrobes literally dissolve in the walls, with their help you can shorten the room or create an additional partition. If there are unnecessary niches in the room, such a cabinet will fit perfectly there. A blind door does not always look aesthetically pleasing, which is why wardrobes are often equipped with a mirror or just glass. Another solution is to replace the cabinet with a rack.
